So, did I tell you that Gene and I babysat Saturday night?
\nHighlights (in no particular order):<\/p>\n
1) About a half hour in, the baby (2 months old) cries. And cries. And criiiies. Gene decides she needs a diaper change and hands her over (would he have done that if she were a he? not sure). Do you know what is terrifying? Trying to change a little tiny baby GIRL’S diaper.<\/p>\n
2) Baby’s still crying. I finally realize that – DUH – she’s hungry and I’m trying to decide if it’s better to risk putting her down while I put together a bottle or try and put the bottle together while holding her and risk dropping her. Then the phone rings and of course it’s the parents. I can thank Baby 411<\/a> for teaching me to shush in her ear because I’m 105% certain that if the parents had heard their 9 week old crying they would have come home immediately and I would have been banned from ever sitting for these kids again. (Trust me on this). Anyway, the shhhhhhhuuuuuuuushhhh afforded us just enough quiet to keep the babyparents calm.<\/p>\n 3) Fed the baby and as soon as the bottle was empty immediately put together a bottle of formula. Which was reeeefused. Hell, no. Boobs or….err….bust.<\/p>\n 4) Gene eventually wanders upstairs with the baby. After awhile, I notice that Gene’s still upstairs and I don’t hear screaming. I wish I had a picture to show you all what I found because you would have melted. Gene was laying (lying?) on the carpet next to one of those playmats<\/a> upon which lay (laid? ugh, and I have a college degree) the baby, engrossed in the little hanging monkey. And Gene was singing a little nonsense song. It was like a movie. Awwww.<\/p>\n
