I notice that the battery power on the laptop is at 97% so I unplug the cord and plug it back in. (Ideally, the cord has a little light that glows tan when it’s charging and green when it is fully charged – my power cord does not reliably light up but it would still charge). And then I go back to whatever I was doing – Pogo.com probably.

After awhile I notice that something smells, kind of a weird plasticky smell, hard to define. And again I note that White Dog only has a 47% charge. I remove the plug from the side of the laptop and realize that the plastic on the cord has pretty much entirely disintegrated, exposing the wire and probably going to cause a huge electrical fire in about 4 seconds. Grrreeeeat. (And yes, that’s how I think…I even spent some time that night convinced that the cord would spontaneously catch fire, even though it wasn’t plugged in).

Oh, and did I mention that a Huge Winter Storm was headed our way? Seriously, we got quite a bit of snow (for here) that really made it hard to get around (for here) and even had Best Buy closed until yesterday (Wednesday).

You heard it here…I went two nights without using the Internet. Read 2 books, watched TV, but it was actually OK. Finally got to Best Buy for a new cord on my lunch hour – considered driving home to plug the laptop in so it would be fully charged by the time I got home but I was a grownup and waited.

Anyway, that’s where I’ve been 🙂 The snow is melting, the roads are much better, and I’m back online.
