Yeah! The greatest spectacle in motor racing!

Anyway. Got up last Friday before 5 and got ready to leave for Cheesecake City International Airport. If six o’clock is super early, then five o’clock (yes in the AM) is just freaking cruel. Gene drove me to the airport and I was checked in and through security by 6:45 AM. For a 9:23 AM flight. May I sarcastically suggest that the fuckers on 9/11 were in kahoots with airport vendors?

Thank heavens for iPod! I had 2 books, my novel and the iPod to occupy me. And it look all of that! I got up to use the ladies room and by the time I got back to my gate, my primo waiting seat was taken so I went across the hall. Midway through…oh, I don’t know, let’s just guess “Hey Nineteen” by Steely Dan, I look up and see people boarding for my flight. Yikes – luckily it was just people w/ kids and first class folks.

Layover in Detroit (Sorry Detroit readers – it was less than an hour. Love the tram in the NWA terminal!) and I found a store that sells primo pet gear. I bought a pink dog bone that smells like peppermint.

At IND, Dad met me at the gate. Again, post 9/11 it is so cool to be the only person being met at the gate and not even by the cops. Awesome. NWA acted like they lost my luggage (along with around 20-25 of my fellow travelers). Turns out they just left it somewhere. All was solved and I got my rental car. (Did I tell you it could have been a Mustang?).

Made it home and Mom said, “Let’s eat!” and I said, that’s the best news I’ve heard all day! We ate at the ever popular Noble Romans. Just mommy and me. I love my mommy. I don’t resent having to share her at all – but if I can get her alone, that’s very cool.

Then Mom said something even more familiar: “Let’s go look for flowers.” The day’s goal was New Guinea Impatiens. No, not regular Impatiens. NEW GUINEA Impatiens. Which were not at Lowe’s. Which were also not at Meijer (but we did find a gorgeous…umm, begonia…which is supposedly Mom’s Mother’s Day gift to herself). By the time we were out in the boonies at Meijer, she said, “Let’s just go to the Olde Farme Markete”. They had them. Not many, mind you – but enough for us to get 2 or 3 of every color they had in stock. The flowers were for my grandma (Mom’s mom) and were her Mother’s Day gift from my mommy.

Dropped off the flowers at Grandma’s but had to be off. I don’t remember why.

I told you I would write in excruciating detail about my trip home to Indiana, the Hoosier state, the Crossroads of America, the home of the …. oh, Cripes, what do they call it?
