And on Wednesday, I left. The cool thing I did while still in Indiana is that Dad waited with me. Since he has the super cool airport privileges, he was able to right to the gate. We had breakfast at Cinnabon. He’d offered anything the airport served but the Cinnabon seemed perfect. I don’t talk about my father much in real life or in my blog but I will say this: he’s a good dad. Need him to make a 2 hour round trip visit to drop off something stupid to me when I was in college? He’s there. Give him an hour warning that he needs to battle downtown traffic to pick up movie pictures for the school paper? No problem! Borrow the car? Sure! Wreck it? He won’t get mad (just make sure you didn’t hurt an innocent Eric Clapton CD)!<\/p>\n
So when it was finally time to go, I think Dad got a little choked up. I don’t say that to rat him out but because it happens every time he’s taken me to the airport, even when I was going to NYC to visit my high school boyfriend.<\/p>\n
The flight to Memphis (layover) was uneventful. Mmm, yumm! Pretzels. When we got to Memphis, I got to my gate and saw Breaking News on the CNN TVs nearby. Turns out it was that nonsense with the guy coming within 3 miles of the White House. Then my flight was delayed due to “weather”. Uhoh. (It was just nonsense because they’re working on a runway at Cheesecake International Airport). My mom calls and says “You’re flight’s delayed!” “Yes, I see” “Are you in Memphis?” and I thought she said “Are you nervous?” so I said “No”…. cell phones don’t work well in airports.<\/p>\n
Anyway, made it home eventually, yippee! Gene picked me up and we went to dinner at a restaurant we hadn’t tried before. It wasn’t as good as my company’s restaurants or Outback, but it was nice to sit across a table with my husband. I’d missed him.<\/p>\n
