is it Black Friday yet? ‘Cause I’m just about to pop with all of this Thanksgiving planning!<\/p>\n

We are hosting Thanksgiving for my in-laws again this year. Since I am married to famous chef Jean (ok, Gene), there has to be a menu and it has to be planned. Pshaw.<\/p>\n

Do you know how many doggone options there are for things? There are millions of mashed potato recipes. Do you know how many recipes it takes to make my head swim? About 3!<\/p>\n

So, we’re having (BTW, you’re welcome to click on and read the recipes, but I am including links mostly so I won’t be screwed on Thursday when it turns out I’ve lost the recipes otherwise):<\/p>\n

Fresh pear and fig mixed salad<\/a><\/p>\n

Brine turkey<\/a><\/p>\n

Blanched Green Beans (yes, it is very funny that to blanche something is to cook them very briefly, whereas Blanche always preferred to boil her green beans until they were basically mush)<\/p>\n

Garlic & Celery Root Mashed Potatoes<\/a><\/p>\n

Rum & Sweet Potato Casserole<\/a><\/p>\n

Tart Cranberry Dipping Sauce <\/a>(what are we dipping into this? I don’t know)<\/p>\n

Orange cake w\/ milk chocolate icing (my bright idea: my theory is that it will taste just like one of those Milk Chocolate Orange things that people give at work). No recipe for this one, just whatever the back of the Duncan Hines cake mix says to do!<\/p>\n

Of all of this, only the brine turkey worries me. The rest will work out eventually, but the turkey set off the smoke detector last time and I don’t relish that, with two babies under 2 in the house.<\/p>\n

So, now I have a shopping list that is really really long. And that overwhelms me, so I’m going to break it up over two shopping excursions: one later this morning (how did it get to be 1:30 already?) and one Tuesday afternoon. I was supposed to have a job interview but I cancelled it (not enough $, too far away) but I think I’m still taking the afternoon off.
