Went to see Team America: World Police, the puppet movie by the guys behind South Park (my favorite TV show). It was very good. I’m always impressed on how they thoroughly manage to slam everyone. Yeah, they’re a little more conservative than I am but the movie was still good. WTF did Helen Hunt ever do to them?

After the movie and lunch, returned home where I again vacuumed and mopped. When Gene left to go play poker, I got busy rearranging our pantry. And after I finished that, I lugged out two garbage bags full of expired food. I have a mania for pitching stuff as soon as its expired, but I don’t think anyone was planning on eating Frosted Flakes (expiration date: 2001) or dried cherries (expiration date: 2002). Now our pantry is neat again. I think it’s the first time it’s been organized since we originally moved in (October 2000).

While I was doing this, I got bored (imagine that) so I called my grandfather. He is my father’s father and has retired to a retirement town in Arkansas. Generally, I go a few months in between conversations with Grandpa but he’s basically full of career advice and with the recent spate of fireside chats at the office, career advice would be helpful. His advice was to not quit until I had something else lined up. Grandpa’s global advice is: Take a deep breath and a step back and assess the situation.

He also informed me that Purdue University was on ESPN2 playing Wisconsin in Purdue’s homecoming game. Unless something amazing happened after the 2 minutes to go mark, Purdue lost. WTF?? Who loses HOMECOMING??? (Actually, I think my own alma mater did, but that’s a different story– Purdue is Big 10 and that’s just in bad taste!). The Purdue thing is interesting. My grandfather was a professor (?) many, many years ago at Purdue. My aunt (Dad’s sister) graduated from Purdue. In theory, my baby brother (MacCauley/Bill) will graduate from IUPUI (let’s not even go there about the IU part…). I…well, I could have gone to Purdue. Anyway, Purdue University is a big deal in my family (the family I’m from, not the family I married into) and when I think of college football, I think of tailgating in the A lot with my grandfather, aunt and some pseudo-relatives (who are now real relatives, however incidentally), watching the Golden Girl (Purdue’s baton-twirler chick) and Purdue Pete. (I do NOT think of my few experiences at Ball State football). The actual game was completely endless — I think a small part of me is still stuck at Ross-Ade, watching seconds tick by waiting for the damned game to be over.

Anyway, Go Boilers, better luck at the Bucket game.

(I think my mother will be mostly surprised I actually had the game on — Ma, I didn’t actually watch it).

Frankly, not a lot.
