So, I am a pretty basic girl, fashion wise. I buy pants only in the following colors: black, brown, tan, gray and shoes on in the following colors: black, brown. (I own blue pants and shoes but have given up trying to match navy blues so these just sit in the closet). (And yes, I am omitting blue jeans and tennis shoes and sandals from this list as, well, I loves me some sandals).
Anyway! On a slightly related note, Gene has always felt it’s best to buy high quality items as they last longer (examples include – and I apologize for naming labels – his super duper Tumi messenger bag, my super awesome Coach purse, 7 years old and still going strong, which is a bummer actually as my next purse has been waiting in the wings since my honeymoon).
His theory extends to shoes, so he encourages me to buy nice shoes. (Yes, I know). So I have bought nice shoes in black and brown. And they still look like ass after a few months. I was looking at my brown shoes today and thinking, “Geez, these look terrible!” The toes are all fadedĀ and now I look icky and ghetto.
So I guess what I’m thinking is, just how much damned money do I have to spend on a pair of shoes for them to make it through a year? I wear each pair of dressy shoes either 2 or 3 days a week so they definitely get a lot of wear. Ugh.
Some ideas:
1) Just buy cheap shoes and be done with it
2) Buy fabric (as opposed to leather) shoes (they won’t fade, right?)
3) Buy ever increasingly expensive shoes and a box of shoe covers like they use in hospitals to protect the shoes
4) Barefoot
Thoughts?
