Today was a good day. We all chilled at the house until noon, when we went for a nutritious meal at Cracker Barrel. Just to let you know, Cracker Barrel has a Low-Carb menu, but I think my meal was off the “Incredibly High Carb” menu — chicken and dumplings, stewed apples, mac n’ cheese and carrots. We stopped off at PetsMart — they had a bunch of animal adoption tables set up outside (it was a beautiful day today — days like this I love the South!) and it was extremely tempting to accidentally adopt an adorable lab puppy. After lunch, we retired home to watch the Game Show Network and plan our “Attack on :::insert name of nearby town with Xmas lights display:::”
Remember how hot I was a few months ago to go through the Corn Maize near our house? This is more of the same stuff. We left our house about 4, planning to be all ready to drive through the small town about 5:30. Traffic was icky, but IT ALWAYS IS, so we took it in stride. Before starting our leisurely stroll (well, drive) we even gave money to a local business by buying drinks and junk food at a nearby Exxon station. The cocoa machine was missing the necessary nozzle (no cocoa! oh no!) but we bravely soldiered on and saw the entire lights display. Twice, even — Blanche wanted to go through it again to see the houses on the OTHER side.
By the time we’d waited in line and driven through the town twice, we all agreed that we were hungry, so Gene surprised us with dinner at the Melting Pot. We had the same waiter as last time, but this time it was even better because — and I hope you take notes on this fact — last time I was the sober driver and this time I was not.
Yes, I’m sitting here, blogging with a buzz, desperately trying to remember how to spell words such as “soldiered”. I’m still not sure it’s right.
All in all, a good day.
And even better news at work — I’m getting my pay cut money back starting next payroll. No retro, but still, it’s not a bad thing. I’ll write more about that later, but it involves a lot of big words and I can no longer spell “How”, “longer” or “payroll” without making typos, so I think this is enough for the night.
