(many thanks to Erin, from whom I have stolen this one yet again…)
1. What did you do in 2008 that you’d never done before?
International travel! Fish pedicure! Made a fritatta!
2. Did you keep your new years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
My resolutions this year were to a) get pregnant b) get a new job c) read more books d) fold laundry on a weekly basis and e) reduce clutter. Epic fail on A and B, I did OK on C and D, and completely meh on E. My 2009 Resolutions are the same as ’08s.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Gene’s best friend’s wife – and she’ll do it again in ’09! (yes, really!)
4. Did anyone close to you die?
No!
5. What countries did you visit?
Malaysia! And we were gonna go to Singapore but that didn’t work out.
7. What date from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Umm… 10/31, the date we left for KL?
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Not going completely batshit spacefuck cuh-ray-zee when I was on Clomid back in June-ish.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Not being able to resist the urge to stock up on liquid hand soap and pregnancy tests. And illicit Gymbo stash.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Do the Clomid Crazies count?
11. What was the best thing you bought?
White Dog – my beloved MacBook.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Mine, for not going on a bender during the trials n’ tribulations that got us a few times this year.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Someone’s ex-something. Stupid whore.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Two hours west of here, for mostly no good reason and certainly no response. Oh, and Malaysia.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Malaysia – lounging by the pool, reading books, writing, looking out the hotel window at all the Malaysia-ness right outside.
16. What song will always remind you of 2008?
“Golden Days” by the Damnwells, especially the line about “I am just a host of arms holding one fool wish”
17. Compared to this time last year, are you happier or sadder?
Sadder
18. Thinner or fatter?
Fat fat fat fat fat
19. Richer or poorer?
I don’t really know
20. What do you wish you’d done more of?
I wish I’d left the hotel room more in KL, but then I might not have been able to spend all that lovely time reading and writing and napping. Malaysia is a paradise.
21. What do you wish you’d done less of?
Getting overwhelmed
22. How will you be spending Christmas?
(oh, why the hell not) My house, knocked up, surrounded by our entire family, including The Boy. (Yes, I dream big).
23. Did you fall in love in 2008?
With White Dog!
24. Any one night stands?
Still no night stands, still ghetto.
25. What was your favorite TV program?
Uhm… How I Met Your Mother, Colbert Report, Daily Show, Chelsea Lately
26. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
No one new.
27. What was the best book you read?
I read so many books this year (well, for a girl who spends hours on Pogo, anyway) and I don’t think any of them were better than others. I am re-reading Little Women right now and that is very good.
28. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Learning to embrace the fact that I love Maroon 5’s “Wake up Call”
29. What did you want and get?
the carrycot for the MBUS. At the rate I’m going that thing is going to be the most tricked out Mountain Buggy on Cheesecake City’s Craigslist.
30. What did you want and not get?
A human being to put inside the carrycot for the MBUS.
31. What was your favorite film of this year?
Tropic Thunder was pretty good. (and so was PS I Love You, although I don’t like admitting it)
32. What did you do on your birthday?
I think I did payroll all day. And maybe we went to a steakhouse for dinner. I literally did not blog at all about my birthday. It was my 29th, so it’s not like it was a big one (ha ha).
33. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
GETTING PREGNANT. FOR FUCK’S SAKE! UGH.
34. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008?
Threadbare.
35. What kept you sane?
Gene traveling half of most months kept me sane. That nugget of alone time made all the difference during some trying, absolutely horrid times.
36. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Blah blah blah Henley c. 1991.
37. What political issue stirred you the most?
Colbert ’08. Also, when Stefania at work and I were going to move to Chicago and become co-Governors. (Seriously, could it get any worse with us at the helm?)
38. Who did you miss?
The Boy. The Boy. The Boy. And Blanche. And Grandma.
39. Who was the best new person you met?
Normally I’d say “Ha! I didn’t meet anyone new!” but this year I’d have to say that our transition team with the new payroll provider has been wonderful. I don’t get to work with them after the new year and I will totally miss working with them!
40. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008:
Going to Dicks.com will not get you to the website for Dicks Sporting Goods. (Trust me)
41. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
I’ve been working on that novel
But I’m just about to quit
‘Cause I’m worryin’ about the future now
Or maybe this is it
It’s not all that I thought it would be
What a shame about me
(Steely Dan “What a Shame About Me” – this was my original answer in the 2006 Year in Review)
Hi
I hope in 2009 you get all resolutions fulfilled.
