Sunday:
Macaulay/Bill picked me up at the Marriott around 10 so we could go to the brunch Mom was cooking. It was the first real meal I’ve eaten at my mom’s house in years…and years… I don’t think I’d sat at the dinner table with my family since sometime in college if I was home for Xmas. I really missed that.
Then Bill, Michelle (Bill’s fiancee) and I piled in Bill’s car and went downtown to the RCA Dome (home of the Indianapolis Colts). The plan was that we’d stop at the Marriott so I could retrieve my luggage and have the hotel stow it while I was at the graduation. We left a few minutes late, I had to have my stuff out of the room by 2 (late checkout, dontcha know) and the graduation was at 3. Mom, next time serve screwdrivers at brunch! About 3 miles of walking and stressing later, Michelle and I (the graduate had gone on to the RCA dome w/o us) meet…Mom, Dad and Aunt Lyn in the Marriott lobby. I’m still not sure how the hell that happened but I guess it worked out so we could all get seats together without Michelle and I being forced to save seats with random bits of clothing. (Then again, I could have saved the entire row with a pair of my big fat ass pants).
The graduation was in two parts: The parts where (gasp!) IU and Purdue deigned to sit together and the part where everything was back to normal. We saw my brother (who I also call “W” just to upset Mom) when his college filed in. After the big graduation (complete with speeches, honorary degrees and a dais of muckety mucks in MC Hammer style bling) we ran like…oh, like crazy fuckers…to the Purdue University School of (thinking) Technology and Engineering for the school graduation, which is when Bill actually walked across the stage and they said his name. Even pronounced it right!
After the graduation, we parted ways with Aunt Lyn who needed to return to her home and her dachsaund. Bill and Michelle drove Bill’s car back to Mom’s and…ooh! I drove Mom and Dad home in my rental. I loved my rental car and I missed it terribly. (I got my license at age 21 and now I agree that it’s not just your car, it’s your freedom!). I did a good job getting us back – no one died. The directions I took to the hotel the previous night – about 9 PM – were basically the same but took me down Martin Luther King Drive. Yeaaah. I even got lost. I knew the directions took me that way but I didn’t tell Mom until I got there because if I’d told her before leaving she would have made Bill drive me to the Marriott. I’m a big girl and I knew I could handle it.
Anyway – we eventually figured out we were hungry and – wahoo! – we went to Steak n’ Shake, where I met the true love of my life. Gene, I’ve got some bad news for you. Scooby, go to your kennel. Don Henley, I need to put you on hold a moment…(cue dramatic music)
The true love of my life – ahhh, sweet mystery of life at last I’ve found theeeeee – was the Sippable Sundae at Steak n’ Shake. I already posted a link to the item on S n’ S’s website. I’m sitting here dreaming about one right freaking now. I was at the mall here that has one today and I didn’t get one (we were in the Infiniti or else I would have!).
Hey, did I mention that Saturday we all went to Outback – on a SATURDAY – and didn’t have to wait? I also nabbed the check to my mother’s eternal consternation. I figure she can take it off my tab.
Did I mention that I ate another Sippable Sundae Monday while Michelle and I waited for the graduation pictures at Walgreen’s? (Did I mention that I strongly considered having one Tuesday? And Wednesday, on the way to the airport?)
And here I am, jumping the gun…
