The boy and I are watching The Incredibles on Starz. I just love that line, “They keep coming up with new ways to celebrate mediocrity”, about the kid’s 4th grade graduation. I know that I’m just a curmudgeon, but I really hate stuff like graduations from grade school. I mean, preschool graduation? Congrats! Your mom had to go to work and find a babysitter for an ENTIRE year…woohoo. I didn’t even have a graduation at all until high school. Perhaps this is just more Cult of Parenthood at work, celebrating little moments that really should just be excuses for trips to, say, Dairy Queen, and not an excuse for a cap and gown.
And yes, I know that I’ll end up eating my words sometime around 2012…but in the meantime, I’ll stay like I am now, thanks.
I actually sorta get Kindergarden (not preschool)graduation … because it really is a whole different world after that…. full-time school with the big kids and what not. But after THAT, I have to agree with you… I find grade school/middle school graduations annoying and unnecessary.
