we’re going to Ohio a week from now. It’s the boy’s Spring Break and I just don’t know that she’ll wait long enough for our previously scheduled vacation south of here.
Now, how do I work this at the office? I am currently scheduled to be away from the office on April 21 for Macaulay/Bill’s wedding on April 22. The reason that I couldn’t spend more time in IN originally was that my boss has to go up north for her goddaughter’s confirmation. I don’t remember when my boss leaves, but maybe I can go up to OH, leaving on 4/14 (we have Good Friday off, making it a fucking awesome Friday!) and staying through Tuesday 4/18. I can be in town for the two truly crucial payroll processing days (Weds/Thurs) and fly out to IN, as planned and as paid for (not that that really matters), attend Bill/Macaulay’s wedding and fly back to Cheesecake City on 4/21.
What would I really like to do? 1) Call out of work tomorrow. The hard part is done with payroll. 2) Alternative to suggestion #1, go in, do the necessary stuff, talk to Boss and Boss’s Boss re: this trip and make it clear that I. Am. Going. To. Ohio. And. Anyone. Who. Asks. “What. About. Payroll?”. Can. Bite. My. Ass. 3) Alternative to #1 & #2, resign effective April 13, go to Ohio until I absolutely must be in IN and then return to Cheesecake City after the boy’s Spring Break is over.
I know, I know. #3 is just running away from responsiblity. Frankly, though, I don’t see any way to get out of having to go with Choice #2. The Cheesecake-Columbus OH drive SUCKS, though, and having to go to work 2 days (HARD days, BTW) and then get on a plane practically right back where I was SUCKS more.
Here’s the deal: I don’t want to leave OH (except for Bill’s wedding, of course) until it is literally all over. A mother in law doesn’t count for FMLA. I tried that one already. I could probably figure out some sort of leave of absence.
I do not know what to do. Gene and I are going to talk about it later tonight and I’ll tell him what I’m thinking.
