To Ponder…

Posted on October 24, 2004 by laineyd

1) Something I don’t get: the band Coldplay. WTF? Their song “Clocks” was on the radio when I was driving back from picking up linner (Wendy’s…blehh!) and I just totally do not understand them at all. I have heard them compared to the Beatles and maybe U2 and I just. don’t. get. it. Is it maybe the fascination with Gwyneth Paltrow that draws fans to this band? With the prominent piano line in Clocks, you’d think it was a shoo-in for me, but it isn’t. I will say that the lead singer’s voice reminds me more of Nick Drake than anything else, especially the Beatles.
2) The boy spent part of the drive this morning trying to convince us that the song Macarena was a #1 single for 60 weeks. When Gene told him that that would break records set by the Beatles or Elvis, I promptly informed all that “If that’s true, it’s not a world I want to live in!”
3) So as I noted earlier, we usually get the boy back to HEM by 3 pm on Sundays. It allows for a leisurely lunch with Gene’s mother and all is well. Today the boy had a school project so he had to be home early. When the boy called Saturday and did the usual “What time do I have to be home by?” thing with HEM, Gene (gasp!) did the manly thing and spoke to HEM about why this is. (Often they demand him home early because they want to go shopping for something weird and we usually end up keeping him later, score!).
Anyway! On the way home, HEM calls us and asks us about this whole thing. The boy told her that Gene was “Pouty” (her word) about the going home early thing. Now Gene’s ticked.

So let’s talk about something that’s more fun before I go do chores (boo!)…here is a quiz I lifted from The Knot’s AOL boards:

IF YOU COULD BUILD A SECOND HOUSE ANYWHERE IN THEWORLD, WHERE WOULD IT BE? I would move this house to the lake and build a second house in Indiana. Ooh! Or maybe buy a Boeing Business Jet — it’s big as a house!

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE ARTICLE OF CLOTHING? My stripey flannel PJ pants. I wish I could wear them to work.

THE LAST CD YOU BOUGHT? :::cocks head to the side::: CD? Buy? Oh, god…I buy about 4 CDs a year (when you listen to the same bands as you did in 6th grade, it’s cheap!) Oh, criminey. It was that 2 disc Jackson Browne CD I bought over tax-free weekend when we went to Best Buy to get Gene a new computer. It sucks.

WHAT TIME DO YOU WAKE UP IN THE MORNING? Alarm goes off at 6 am Mon-Friday, but I usually don’t make it out of bed until 6:30. If it’s any later I have to sacrifice showering and that’s just nasty.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE KITCHEN APPLIANCE? That suggests that I cook, which I don’t. I use the kitchen telephone to order food in, does that count?

IF YOU COULD PLAY AN INSTRUMENT, WHAT WOULD IT BE? I would love to play the drums because then maybe I would have a sense of rhythm.

WHICH DO YOU PREFER, SPORTS CAR OR SUV? Both! I want a Porsche (mmmmmmmmm) and a Toyota Highlander, both in black.

DO YOU BELIEVE IN AFTERLIFE? Nope.

FAVORITE CHILDREN’S BOOK? A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett or Corduroy or the Madeline books or Curious George. Least favorite is the Cat’s Quizzer by the Cat in the Hat guy. It takes for freaking ever to read to a kid.

IF YOU COULD HAVE ONE SUPER POWER, WHAT WOULD ITBE? Not a super power, but I would really enjoy a license to kill.

IF YOU HAVE A TATTOO, WHAT IS IT? No no no no no.

CAN YOU JUGGLE? Not unless swapping things from my left hand to my right really quickly counts…

THE ONE PERSON FROM YOUR PAST YOU WISH YOU COULD GO BACK AND TALKTO?My grandmother.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE DAY? Any day I don’t have to go to work.

WHAT’S IN THE TRUNK OF YOUR CAR? A blue tub full of random things (magazines, newspapers), bug spray, a jacket or two, hopefully no food wrappers but there’s no guarantee with me.

WHICH DO YOU PREFER, SUSHI OR HAMBURGER? Sushi, especially from the sushi restaurant we went to for my birthday in San Diego.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE FLOWER? I loved the stargazer lilies in my bridal bouquet. One of these days perhaps I’ll make a silk bouquet of them.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MEAL? Melting Pot!
