1. What did you do in 2007 that you’d never done before? Worked on Christmas Day. Can’t say I plan to do THAT again.
2. Did you keep your new years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year? Ha ha HA. My 07 resolutions were to spend Xmas 2007 knocked up surrounded by our families, to lose more weight in anticipation of being knocked up, to write more off the blog and to get my toes done. I am so glad I included that one about the toes – I think I sported a nice pedicure throughout most of 2007.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth? Lots of my favorite bloggers did. I know that doesn’t count as close, but there you have it.
4. Did anyone close to you die? NO. And NO ONE can die in 2008, dammit.
5. What countries did you visit? None. And I was slightly close to getting to go to London and the Netherlands, too. Oh well.
7. What date from 2007 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? July 14th – the technical day we started trying. You know, TRYING.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? Surviving the absolute shittiest payroll of the year, possibly of all time. It may have partially happened in the final days of 2006, but the effects were felt well into 2007 (and now, 2008).
9. What was your biggest failure? I still work for the same heinous employer.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury? Just my raging case of Mahjobiscrappis.
11. What was the best thing you bought? The MBUS. Even if I never use it and give it away, it fills me with hope when I see it.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration? Gene admitted when he was being difficult, which really made me feel better.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed? Still my own!
14. Where did most of your money go? Copays. Well, and the MBUS.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about? Every month I thought we’d succeeded.
16. What song will always remind you of 2007? I’m So Happy I Can’t Stop Crying by Sting (what can a father do but babysit sometime, right?)
17. Compared to this time last year, are you happier or sadder? Sadder. We haven’t spoken to the Boy since August.
18. Thinner or fatter? Probably a few pounds fatter. I’ve been pretty lazy since being ill in November.
19. Richer or poorer? Poorer, but still OK.
20. What do you wish you’d done more of? Reading, writing.
21. What do you wish you’d done less of? Formulating escape plans.
22. How will you be spending Christmas? Oh, what the hell. Knocked up in Cheesecake City surrounded by our families.
23. Did you fall in love in 2007? I really love Gene more and more. Even when I tell anyone who will listen that if he turns up dead to just give the police my name and general description.
24. Any one night stands? No, we still have NO night stands. Our bedroom is ghetto. :PPP
25. What was your favorite TV program? How I Met Your Mother, The Office, Bones and that show with the kids in the Olde West town.
26. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year? I don’t think so.
27. What was the best book you read? Gah, did I seriously not read an entire book all year??? (Not counting the 5 or so books I re-read annually-ish)
28. What was your greatest musical discovery? Don Henley’s cover of the Beatles “Yes It Is.”
29. What did you want and get? To get my toes done, to pay off the credit cards, the MBUS, the Employee of the Year award and money.
30. What did you want and not get? A Dilbert Page a Day calendar. Arrrgh.
31. What was your favorite film of this year? I’m really not sure, but I’m going to say Idiocracy. Ooh, and the original version of Diabolique was so good. (I totally slacked off – these are movies I know I saw because I looked them up on IMDB).
32. What did you do on your birthday? Two of my favorite things: 1) Raked in the gifts and 2) Pissed off a coworker.
33. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying? If I had actually become knocked up. Even when I don’t want to get knocked up, I want to get knocked up. The space between my ears is NOT a happy place to reside right now.
34. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2007? Clerkwear. (As in, what a clerk wears).
35. What kept you sane? Listening to music and reading things I’ve written (blog and non blog).
36. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? I would still give my left pinkie for a night with Don Henley circa 1991.
37. What political issue stirred you the most? If you’re apathetic enough, nothing stirs you at all. Okay okay, noncustodial fathers rights. And when the South Carolina Democrats wouldn’t let Stephen Colbert run for President. Jerks.
38. Who did you miss? I still miss Gene’s mom and my grandma. I really don’t know if I ever will not miss them. And I miss the boy. Life doesn’t seem right without him.
39. Who was the best new person you met? Does my younger nephew count? Before this Xmas, the last time I saw him was Xmas 2006 when he was still in the baby bucket.
40. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2007. Don’t buy baby stuff if you’re not even pregnant yet. Yes, I know it’s a great value/exactly what you want/awfully cute/festooned with penguins. Spend the money on getting your toes done instead. You will always have toes, but a baby? There’s really no telling on that.
41. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year –
“The park is full of Sunday fathers and melted ice cream
We do the best we can within the given time
A kid should be with his mother, Everybody knows that
What can a father do but babysit sometime?”
